Due to court-ordered map changes, the approximately 22,000 votes cast in the May 19 Primary for Senate Districts 25 and 26 will not count toward the upcoming Special Election. While that may feel frustrating, it also shows why voter education and community engagement are so important.
The Special Election will NOT impact Alabama’s June 16 Primary Runoff Elections.
Voters in Alabama Senate Districts 25 and 26 will return to the polls on August 11 to vote using the 2021 legislative map aligning them to Districts 26 and 27.
The August 11 Special Election could include updated district lines, possible polling place changes, new candidates, and a fast-moving election timeline.
